LCRA October Newsletter 2015

However, there is one clarification/correction needed with respect to the garages behind Chester Green Road/off City Road which will NOT be used as a compound for the flood defense work.  Clarification regarding this issue is quoted below:

The OCOR [Our City Our River] project is not planning on using any of the garage area on City Rd as a compound –I apologies for any confusion the discussion caused at the Board meeting.

The compounds are to be located on the City Rd Aida Bliss car park ( adjacent to Parker’s Piece) , with the northern leisure car park accessed of Old Chester Rd. and a new compound space created located in the area currently used by the  Council which is where new car- parking is to be created by the scheme. Identified in DRG 14 ( attached)

What we had intended to explain at the Board (obviously badly) was  we are looking to explore the possibility , the costs and the steps we need to take, to reconfigure the garage car park on City Rd –  ( the one opposite the Aida Bliss /Parker’s Piece . ) will a view to providing more parking provision within the Little Chester area. We have some information gathered in the summer about the number of garages being regularly used . We would look to see and explore:

  • how much formal garaging might need to be provided, (could some garages be removed?
  • which of the large trees could be removed,
  • would changes to levels visibility by removal of certain trees give an improved sense of safety ( is there a feeling of unsafeness in that location at the moment?)
  • a review of what a re-configuration of more parking spaces and what a revised layout might look like.

There would need to be retention of easement for properties which have access from the rear of their properties into the existing car park area.

We are not proposing that this area is used for compound- we are proposing that undertaking some work may increase and provide benefit for parking provision whilst the OCOR works are undertaken.
