Flood Defence Master Plan

The LCRA still have many unresolved issues regarding the City Council/Environment Agency’s Flood Defence master plan for Derby City. There has been no response from the Government minister to questions raised by Chris Williamson M.P. on public flood defence funding and discussions on the flood insurance agreement which runs out in 2013. A meeting was recently requested by the LCRA to discuss unresolved concerns with the newly appointed Cabinet Councillor for Planning & Environment prior to the master plan being put forward for cabinet approval in July. Unfortunately Hardyal Dhinsa did not attend the meeting, so we were unable to properly discuss our concerns about the unknown/20 year timescale and reliance on new private development providing integrated flood defences along City Road to the majority of 2150 properties at flood risk in the City.We will continue to request satisfactory answers and solutions to our unresolved concerns from our elected members before decisions are taken to approve a master plan which we believe could leave Chester Green and Derby City residents at prolonged risk of serious flooding and prohibitive insurance premiums.

Micro Pub Planning Application

The public consultation has closed on the application for change of use of the former executive laundry at 4a Chester Green Rd to a Micro Pub. After receiving requests from a number of concerned local residents, for advice on how to best object to this application, the LCRA distributed a guidance letter to properties in the near vicinity of 4a Chester Green Rd. Twenty objections and twenty letters of support have been received by the council. The majority of objections are from local residents; the majority of letters of support are from outside of the area. The normal procedure where a high level of objections are received, is that the decision is made by councillors on the Planning Control Committee (PCC) rather than by the Planning Case Officer. Three objectors to the application have agreed to speak at the PCC meeting (there is a limit of two so it must be mutually agreed who will speak). No date has been confirmed for the PCC meeting as of 24/6/12.
