Attached below is this month’s newsletter (which is coming to you in printed form as we speak!) Lots of up and coming events this month including the excellent Halloween Disco at the Community Centre (always a great event!)
Chester Green Events Team are also running the Chester Green XMas Window Trail again this year (after last year’s very successful pilot!) We had BBC Radio Derby feature us live on a morning slot and it was a great little advert for our area 🙂 If you’d like to be involved this year (you’ll be included on a little map), then do get in touch.
On a more serious note, the newsletter gives updates on the Aida Bliss factory and how we’re continuing to try and convince the owners to make the building safe (as we have been doing for many months, now) and also news that the incinerator on Alfreton Road has been recommended for approval by the council planning officer, even though there are over 400 objections (although the actual planning meeting was put back for some reason). The council planning seem to be more concerned with local residents using correct materials when replacing doors and windows, and turning down extensions, than they are with dangerous buildings (allowing the Aida Bliss building to remain in its current state) and potentially air polluting waste incinerators. Is our conservation area status and council planning really fit for purpose? If you’ve had issues with the council planners, I’d like to hear from you.
So, they’ll be delivered to you soon, but here’s the latest newsletter. As it looks like I forgot to post last month’s, here’s June’s too!
Remember, it’s the Picnic on the Green on Sunday 9th and it’s looking like it should be a great little event for our local community. They’ll be live music, games, face painting, a local theatre company, singers, and more
The printed copy of the newsletter will be making its way to you from this evening, but in the meantime, here’s the electronic version. April is looking to be a busy and exciting month for Chester Greenies!
We have a quiz night (7th April)
Mixed Crafts, Gentle Exercise and Zumba classes at the community centre
Easter Table Top Sale (8th April)
Mirrors of Mary (performance – 12th April)
Mindfulness Course (starting on 18th April)
Our City, Our River Flood Defence Drop in Session (19th April)
1940s Variety Show (from Jeremy and Becky from Pocket Panto – 22nd April)
And after the success of the Queen’s Birthday celebrations last year, a ‘Picnic on the Green‘ will be held on Sunday 9th July (save the date!)
A big thank you to Alternative Tiles on Mansfield Road for sponsoring this issue, too.
All the details can be found in this month’s newsletter!
Below are the February Newsletter (which are being distributed shortly) and an electronic copy of the January update circulated earlier (we don’t normally do a January newsletter, but something important came up)! Lots of updates contained within…do have a look 🙂
We’re also excited to announce that the Chester Green Christmas Window Trail will be starting on 6th December (running to the 6th January). The map of the 31 windows taking part is below. Why not have an explore in December, and see if you can guess the theme of each window!
Finally, we have an appeal! The newsletter is written and distributed by volunteers. The printing costs are usually covered by the Residents Association, but we’re nearly out of money. We produce 1000 copies each month, and if each house gave just £1, this would fund the newsletter for approximately 4 years! See details in the newsletter if you’d like to help keep the newsletter going and make a donation. No matter how small, it all helps 🙂
October’s newsletter is below (you’ll have received the paper copy at the beginning of the month!). Also, do come along the annual Halloween Disco on Saturday 29th October at the Community Centre from 7pm onwards. They’ll be games, food and a bar with a disco too! Always a great night, and prizes for the best Halloween outfits!
Our City Our River (OCOR) are holding a public drop-in event on Wednesday 19th October from 3.00pm to 6.30pm at the Chester Green Community Centre, just off Old Chester Road, Derby, DE1 3SA. There will be updates on the construction work to build new flood defences and the next stage of work starting. There will also be team members on hand to answer questions about the project. Please contact Cassandra Carruthers on 01332 643488 or email for further information.
Please share, as notice for this is very late, it would seem!
